For Mom,
Tough day? Rough week? Where is the peace and solace you seek?
Is the pain overwhelming? Does every movement cause more pain?
Is this isolation all you have left in this world? Is there nothing more to gain?
October, my favorite month. The weather changes, the heat finally relents. Football, fireflies, colorful trees, the crisp fragrances only available to one’s senses in the fall. Oh, and my 22nd anniversary to my incredible wife, lover, partner, best friend and pretty much everything is tomorrow. People seem a little kinder in October. Don’t know why that is, but it is.
“October is from the Latin octo, which means “eight”. The number “eight” is said to be a symbol of wealth, prosperity, peace and fertility.”
After some thought, it seems to me the good folks back in the days of Rome must have been naming the months of the calendar while consuming a significant amount of wine. But, maybe I just need to read more. Maybe that will change my perspective. We should all consider other perspectives in life. It seems to me, August should be October, speaking strictly as a numbers guy. But then, October would suck. So…
Enough mindless ranting, streaming of thought while I finally find myself in a neutral position, a functional position. October brings about change and always always brings more light into my life, even as the days get shorter.
But with this change, the time of the year we all begin to alter our physical expectations of the outside world, there is another aspect of change riding on in to my heart and head. I don’t know how it works for you, but for me the more alive I feel, the more I feel the demons of anxiety and depression closing range.
With all the uncertainty and struggle this year, October doesn’t quite feel the same. Those demons are closer this year than ever before.
Good thing for me, and for you, and contrary to what some might believe, there is an extraordinary power in the universe that is severely underutilized. Love.
Here is the catch. As human beings, living, breathing, thinking, loving creatures, we all serve as conduits of love. We are designed that way. We are all connected.
In other words, every one of us has a single purpose in this life, to love others. That also happens to be how we receive love.
Are you starting to see how simple this plan is?
So, in this month of change be the conduit of love. Be a multiplier, an amplifier of love. Be sure to connect and share that love.
Like I said, it is a great time of year that can inspire many emotions. Let us make sure we tilt all that universal power toward love and remember just how connected all of us truly are.
For my depressive brothers and sisters, for those of you who are struggling as this great ball of confusion changes gears. Hold fast. In this time of change, we will strengthen our bonds, enjoy the cooler weather and leave those old demons back in August.
You are not alone.
Be love. Be kind. We are all connected.
Life is better with a soundtrack.
I am really becoming a big fan of Nessi Gomes.
