Blessed Is The One Who Shares

Hi friends,

It’s been awhile. I just don’t possess the energy or clarity to write these days, but I’m trying.

That being said, this will be a short one. I am thinking tonight about friendship and of those friends who have shared a lifetime of ups and downs, of joy, of pain, and all points in between. While I don’t want to exclude anyone, this night in particular I am remembering and celebrating the origins all the way to the latest text messages of my Gen X crew, my lifelong besties, the ones that have been there through it all from elementary school to Jr. High to Sam Houston HS in Arlington, TX.

What can be said about our lives that hasn’t been said? So forgive me if I repeat a few things about who we are as a generation. We are currently the smallest generation alive today, the in-between generation. AKA, the latchkey kids, MTV, forgotten (not by us) generation.

To quote one of my favorite sci-fi characters, Captain Malcom Reynolds, who just happens to be played by Nathan Fillion, born March 27, 1971, a true Gen Xer, “That makes us mighty!”

And my friends, despite the setbacks and the current state of the world, we are nowhere close to being done. We are the bridge between analog and digital. We are the children of the awesome 80s! We are the Breakfast Club and the keeper of St. Elmo’s Fire.

The 1980s is undeniably the most popular music era and that music is certainly the music we as Gen Xers most associate ourselves with.

So, as a reminder of our youth I came across this song that you may have forgotten about. I have no personal story or message associated with it only to share one of the lines in the lyrics, “share” being the key word.

“Blessed is the one who shares.”

Some of you might recognize the song from a certain movie with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, both Gen Xers by the way.

I hear the song and remember 87′ and 88′ as a Junior and Senior in high school along with the friendships I made as well as it being one of the most pivotal, impactful times of my life in so many other ways.

But that line, that is poignant because of the friendships I have shared. To say I am blessed to have such wonderful and amazing friends just isn’t enough to describe how I feel about the life I have lived with the people I have shared it with.

This song stirred my emotions when I was 16 and it still does today. I hear it and remember moments in life I would never otherwise. Music has that power! And, this was and still is a heart wrenching powerful song filled with memories of times shared, with all of you.

Be love. Be kind. We are all connected.

Life is better with a soundtrack.
